What do you guys think about the Nissan Leaf? Its a full production, full-electric vehicle coming to select markets this fall, and will be widely available in 2012.

I think its a great idea, it has 100mi/160km to a charge and using the full voltage charger can be replenished 80% (80 mile charge) in less than 30 minutes. They are building a national charging infrastructure with this vehicle.

Its a very good style, and its very practical. I think its a fantastic, affordable new car.

I would buy it! Nissan make great cars and I love this technology. However I am a Ford fan and I would love to see this done to a Focus!

FORD, that's really too bad! hahahahaha

See part of the problem with a car like this is that the housing market being what it was and is, is that a lot of people had to drive til they could afford it. I would never be able to risk that kind of mileage due to the distance I live from work. Sitting in traffic has got to count for lost time on that charge.
Life is a waiting room, hope they don't call me soon.....

If the charging infrastructure were in place it would be more practical, although I'd like to see enough batteries for 200mi/320km worth of driving. I haven't heard of a good reason to avoid putting that many batteries in a car yet, because new lithium ion battery technology can be installed with far superior ranges to 100 miles.

But if you are able to charge up 80 miles in 25-30 minutes and you can plug it in at work while its parked, or plug it in at the grocery store, and obviously at home - it sounds practical even at 100 mile charge for most needs except large vacations/trips where you'd have to get a rental.
