This question gets brought up every once in a while. Been using avg for what seems like forever and i've never really had an issue. it's free, lightweight and seems to do the trick (i probably have a virus and don't even know it lol...doubt it). anybody out there want to try and convince me otherwise? i like free, i like lightweight...anything better than avg? |

I had been a long time user of AVG but in the last 6 months It had become more and more resource intensive. I noticed a lot more false positives on some files I stored. It also took it upon itself to delete many of them. When I started beta testing Win7 I noticed MS was putting out a new AV product. It's free and lightweight. I decided to give it a try and I am really happy I did. It integrates so well into windows 7 I almost forget its there. Also every review i could find it out performs the other free AV's on the market. http://www.microsoft.com/SECURITY_ESSENTIALS/default.aspx Anyhow, if you can get past the idea of trusting MS for security, I'd say give it a try. |

I have been a very loyal Avast user until MS came out with their own AV product called "Security Essentials" as Shadow was mentioning it's free and VERY LIGHTWEIGHT you don't even notice it running in the background because MS worked very hard on it's code and who knows windows better than their creator so it honestly blends perfectly and works perfectly and gives out barely no false positives unlike other AV products that think some random Windows processes are an attack of some sort and alert you it don't happen with this... it uses less than half of the resources Avast used and Avast is always considered a lightweight itself so that's a very good thing PLUS it has passed all the best virus scanning tests around with flying colours! |

I remove viruses from computers all day long. Here is what I use: Avira, Malwarebytes, Combofix, hihack this. Avira is currently rated number 1 on Avcomparatives, these guys right over 1M viruses. All those programs I use are free99. |

I have used Malwarebytes, and Combofix quite often. However, Avira, I am unsure of as they are not even certified. http://www.westcoastlabs.com/checkmark/search/ is a good place to find certified av products. |

So you like Security Essentials then? I love it and coupled with what you said "being smart on the net" and you will be fine. |

It is great Microsoft has released a capable AV. This may lead to other AV companies having to think of new ideas in their software for people to buy and renewal. |
