The recession has not affected me at least not in a negative way.... I have been able to maintain solid work throughout it so far infact midway through through the recession I was able to go from full time at Harveys (fast food restaurant) to a much better job with better pay and benefits and all the work hours I can possibly handle lol at the Hilton so I was able to better my life through this recession but I know not everyone is so lucky. Tourisim in the Falls was not really hit that hard because so many Canadians decided to just drive to the Falls for a few days or the full week rather than flying to some exotic vacation so that helped offset tourists that normally come here from other countries that were unable to this year. How about you?

I was able to secure enough in loans to pay the tuition, but books are still a pain. Looks like our insurance might run out soon too.

The days off weren't forced on us but during the summer it was fun to take a Friday off ever once and a while.

Silver Member Posts: 1,717 Group: Member Member #169 Joined: March 4, 2005	Well personally the only way the recession has affected me was that the camp that I work for, Camp Joslin, due to lack of money and staff and the crazy weather the first week of was cancelled and turned into pre-camp staff training which I arrived late to due to numerous snow days. Due to the cancellation of this one week session of camp my pay for the summer decreased. I only got $1500 bucks for 7 weeks of working and 1 week of training so for me that could have been another 2-300 dollars and much more gas money. My parents have been much more affected by the recession. My dad has been in and out of jobs and constantly is going to a different job interview. My mom recently quit her job due to other reasons but struggled to find another job until recently. But other than that I go out to eat, my parents still buy name brands, and we haven't had to cut back on anything so far. knock on wood

That's not true, but it was the most fitting option. I moved here to Pittsburgh in Sept 08 after getting the job earlier that summer (in June 08) before the recession was obvious. Less than days after I started the job the economy went to total shit, and they decided for this fiscal year to cut the budget and gone I was... I'm reapplying and seeing where things go and if I don't hear anything this month I'll be in deep shit.

Ladie's Admin aka HornDog Posts: 5,865 Group: Administrator Member #108 Joined: November 20, 2004	Having to charge things cuz my work had slowed enought that they put us on forced unpaid days off every quarter. 40 hours a quarter, still got my house and cars. Need tires, need dental work, but losing a car payement worth of pay every month still sucks. Have done little, seen 3 movies, not buying luxury stuff like movies and music. sympathies to those without jobs and bennies!

That my contract would not be renewed and that they were eliminating my position. They called it a layoff, and I even got a severance. But I do not expect to be re hired anytime soon.

I took a few wed. off without pay. This I am sure helped and prevented any type of real lay off for me. So I could only vote on "yes lost money in stocks and investments"...but who did not this year if you had any? Hopefully we are seeing and end to this and the economy is getting better world wide. For me it was a busy Sept. and looks good for the rest of the year. I wish all the best to those not as fortunate and were hit hard by the recession.
