I thought I'd make a thread talking about how I recently decided to make the jump from 32bit xp to 64 bit windows 7. A lot of ppl thought I was crazy but I'm actually really surprised. I was under the impression that I'd have problems running legacy 32bit apps, but I haven't ran into an application problem. Microsoft has left a lot of 32bit app support in there. Almost everything asides from my anti virus, screenreader, and a network optamizer [CfosSpeed] is all 32bit apps and it runs better then I've ever seen it on 32bit. I do have 4GB of memory, and to be fare, that was a big reason I finally made the switch, but I still think it's a viable option if you have a 64bit capable processor, and most of you do by now if you've bought a machine in the last 2 years or so. MS must have learned from the vista debacle.

My current setup is Windows 7 64 bit. I agree it is a monster of an OS.

My current system is

Intel Q6600 @ 3.15ghz
8GB DDR 1066
Soundblaster XFi Gamer Pro
Nvidia GTX 285 1GB Black Edition.

And let me tell you what. Windows 7 64 bit runs phenomenal.

I'm using Vista 64 bit and I have 8gigs of ram and a Quad core. I was thinking when 7 came out I'd definately buy it in 64 bit.

I'm gonna go to 8GB ddr2 833. I believe I have enough room for 4GB more. I like to waste money :D

Cool stuff, I love running x64 stuff. I mainly use my computer for web, chat, info, fun, o yeah and mathemical engineering. I am currently running Matlab 7 x64 and it is smooth. There is no need for me to update my system yet, I am waiting to upgrade to get USB 3, Sata III, and Pci-e v3 and then I will ugprade, around next year or so. I can get Windows 7 since I have access to Technet and MSDN but I will stick with Vista X64 Ultimate Sp2 since school is keeping me busy. :D

My setup:
Abit IP35 PRO
E6750
8GB DDR2
1TB WD BLack BOOT Drive
3x640GB WD Black Storage drives
2x1TB external Fantom Backup drives
1x400GB Western Digital mini external

You can try it, there are torrents out there to give it a shot before you decide to buy it when it is released.

After all the hype of 64 bit in this thread I finally downloaded it and made a DVD.
Installed on a test Comp and will post my comments on it soon.
So far it is not on a sceamingly fast comp, but an older one ( dual core 2.66...2 gig ram )
...I was down to only having one keyboard, so I grabbed a cheap one on the way home from work so I don't have to keep running back and forth. It was a cheap 15 dollar one, and I am laughing as when I hooked it up I looked again and it is water-proof! ......which is good as I spilled beer on the last one that died on me! *newShy*

wow....I guess I should post this in what are you doing now....
what i did tonite was winder why the power in my Apt kept shutting off! There is no rain or storms, and I did pay the electric bill so it was a piss off to have the Fu*cking power turn on and off all evening!
....not good for desk tops so I unplugged them and picked on the mac laptop....*is typing on it now....clean install of win7 64....
so far so good! this is a real install not a parallels virtual machine, but a real one!
If I am typing here it is working *thumbUp
