OK I'm behind a router and I can't get any p2p application to work only uTorrent which is good but I would like to get Shareaza working so I can get rare individual songs since I have to redownload tons of lost music since my HD died on me. Any tips on how to open proper ports? Is it done via the router somehow or Kris's moms computer where the modem & router are connected to or is it done on my computer somehow? I'm a complete newb when it comes to routers. I have the TrendNet 54mbps 11g Wireless Router TEW-432BRP but I have the wireless disabled and I'm using a Cat cable to connect to it.

You do it from your computer. YOu have to know your local ip, but portforward.com should help you out. Just search out your router model for steps to open ports. |

your router maker should have instructions on how to open ports on their website. you do it from any computer connected to the router through IE or FF by typing in the ip address of the router (http://192.160.0.1) for example (that's the ip for my d-link). yours will probably be different. to find out what your router's ip is go to Start > run > type in "cmd" (no quotes) > type in "ipconfig" (no quotes) > hit enter > then look next to where it says "Default Gateway". that will be your router's ip. |
