dc++ is a file sharing program like no other. It's network is split into hubs with share requirements. This is where the hardcore sharers hide out, and if you want anything, dc++ is the way to go[IMO] if you have something to share. The requirements are as small as 0, but most hubs are at least 1gb. All the clients I will mention are open sourced under the gpl lisence. Clients dc++ http://dcplusplus.sf.net The original dc++ client. There are better clients, but if you just want a simple client, this the way to go, just keep in mind that there isn't a banwith limiter at all in this client. revconnect[reverse connect] http://www.revconnect.com This is my client of choice right now. Multisourced downloads are the main feature that sets this client apart from dc++. It's based of the dc++ code[all clients I'm going to mention are], and so it's not that hard to get started. peerweb dc++ http://dc.peerweb.org/ This will probably be the client of choice for a lot of people because it has a upload speed limiter. It's based off the strongdc++ code with many enhancements and graphic apeal. Lots and lots of settings in this one, have fun playing around with it. getting started When you open eather client for the first time, the settings dialogue is the first thing you see. I recommend filling as much out as you want on the first page, especially, nick, description[wich is a description of your stuff, or whatever you want it to be], and connection speed. After your done filling it out, hit connection settings, and this is where it gets a little difficult[if your behind a router]. There are 2 connection types we need to be concerned with here, and they are active and passive mode. The difference between the two is active people can connect to everyone, while passive can only connect to those who who are active. If your behind a router and want to go active, you must forward a port on your router for dc++. http://www.portforward.com is a great place for finding how to open ports on your type of router, as well as learning about networking and common ports etc. Once you've open a port, highlight the active radiobutton, and enter your wan ip[the one that other computers on the internet see]. If you don't know what that is http://www.showmyip.com will detect it and display it for you. Enter the port you opened, or want[if your not behind a router]. I recommend a port above 10000. Then go to downloads, and set your downloads folder. Note: your downloads folder will not be shared! After setting your downloads folder, go to shared. Now here is where you select wich folders you want to share. Peerweb dc++ looks differently, and since I'm blind, I had to use an alternative method for selecting folders, so unless someone edits this posts with instructions, your on your own for this. With that out of the way, click add, and brows to the folder you want. Note: all subdirectories[folders inside the folder you chose] will be shared. Once you've selected the folder/folders you want to share, select the amount of upload slots you want. The default is 0?, I recommend setting it to at least 3-4[so 3-4 people can upload from you at once]. Now click ok and your done! Go to view, public hubs, and have fun! I may be starting a hub in the near future, and so that's kinda what inspired me to make this little crappy no screen shot tutorial for dc++. :D Have fun everyone! |

Dc++ is the programm which i use most of the time for sharing, because there are a lot of specialised Hubs, with stuff that i can not get anywhere else. If you want to join a good Hub you need , quite a few gb in your share. Porn is in most of the Hubs not welcome. And beware that most of the Hubs scan your files for fakes and incomplete files. And quite a few Hubs might refuse you, if you use a modified client and not the original Dc++ client. |

Not easy to answer. The way i do it is, i connect to a Hub and than sit back and follow what is going on in the Chat. If i like what i see, i start joining the conversation. If not i am straight out. You get the feeling for whats going on in a Hub quite quickly. |

A good way to find hubs that you might be interested in is to go to http://www.hublist.org and enter a keyword in the search[genre of music etc] |

This is nice. And 1:1 with anyone in the world. Unlike the other p2p when you are connected to like 100+ people! Check the connection to the other people on ++ because some people have uploads of 300kb/s!!!!! |

Have try'd this one recently and a while ago. It's great, the part where you just share with friends ( kind of like what soulseek n Grouper ) sort of, but this app has been around for a while a good one! |

This seems like a very cool program, I like it because its concept is very similar to IRC. I'll try it out, thanks for sharing the info. |
